ARZU
August 5th - August 30th 2004
Pakistan, Afghanistan
Arzu (“hope" in Dari) is a non-profit organization that is helping to reestablish beauty and lost tradition, while bolstering access to education and health care for women and their families, and a fair market for their goods. Arzu provides sustainable income to underprivileged Afghan women by sourcing and selling carpets in the U.S. Learn more about Arzu and how you can help, please contact Jasmine Nahhasdiflorio at 212-501-828.
The Vindaloo crew traveled to Pakistan and Afghanistan in August 2004 to document all aspects of the rebirth of the traditional Afghan carpet weaving, from the preparation of the wool (spinning and natural dying process), to the weaving. The crew met and interviewed families of weavers and witnessed the effects and challenges Arzu faces in helping to rebuild Afghanistan through economical empowerment and education.
